With so many options available, choosing the right dental office in Fort McMurray can be a difficult task. You're probably asking yourself questions like these: Is the staff friendly and welcoming? Does the dentist have the proper training and certifications? Will they accept my insurance plan? How far away is the office from my home?
At Morrison Centre Dental Group, we understand how overwhelming this selection process can be. To help you make the most informed decision, here are some questions you should ask a dental office before you book your first appointment:
Do you specialize in any services?
What is your location?
What are your office hours?
Do you have payment options?
Do you offer sedation dentistry?
Do you provide emergency dental care?
Once you become a patient, pay attention to things like how well your dentist explains your treatment options, your overall wait time, and how bills are handled. We also suggest speaking to your friends, family, and neighbours about their experiences and recommendations.
If you're not satisfied with your dental clinic, you probably aren't visiting as often as you should be. Please don't neglect your dental health! Routine dental checkups are crucial for the removal of cavity-causing plaque and tartar, oral cancer identification, and gum disease detection and treatment. And because of the correlation between your dental health and your overall health, your dentist is also commonly the first health care provider to identify signs of diabetes, leukemia, heart disease, and kidney disease.
Morrison Centre Dental Group has been a trusted dental office in Fort McMurray for over 40 years; in fact, we're one of the oldest clinics in the area! Our success lies in our ability to always put the patient first, no matter their age or dental needs. Dr. Carl Deane
Dr. Carl Deane is originally from Edmonton but has lived in Jasper and Seba Beach, Alberta briefly and traveled extensively in his younger years. He did both his undergrad and dental school at the University of Alberta and graduated in 1988. While completing the final years of dental school, he lived part-time in Ft. McMurray and then moved here to work at the Morrison Centre Dental Group right after graduation as a new graduate. It was only a short time before the opportunity came to become a partner in the practice and he eventually became sole owner about 15 years ago. He just recently celebrated 30 years in the practice.
Dr. Deane has a passion for the great outdoors and is an accomplished skier, sailor, paddler and musher. His wanderlust has led him to travel all over the Rockies and central arctic by kayak, canoe, skis and dog team. He often believes that his best nights are those spent in a tent, whether it be in the summer or winter. Although he no longer keeps count, he believes he has traveled somewhere over 80,000 kilometers by dog team and still spends every opportunity he gets enjoying what our north has to offer!
Dr. Deane’s relaxed, friendly, outgoing, and family friendly style shows up in every aspect of his practice and patients and staff often share a laugh during treatment. Each patient is evaluated for their own dental needs and treatment options discussed. Every patient is treated in a practical and all-encompassing way with the final outcome kept in perspective at all times.
Dr. Deane’s number one priority is making sure his patients are comfortable and that they receive quality care. He has years of experience working with special needs patients and is now one of the senior surgeons at the Northern Lights Regional Hospital.
Dr. Deane has seen the ups and downs of Fort McMurray over the years but loves how our community comes together and helps each other out when the going gets tough.
I was born and raised in Fort McMurray and started my career in the dental industry as a Dental Assistant in 2013. After working for a year, I felt I needed more one on one with patients and decided to go back to school. I received my Dental Hygiene diploma from the Canadian National Institute of Health in Ottawa, Ontario, and started my hygiene career in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan after graduation. Wanting to be near family, I moved back to Fort McMurray in 2017 and started working with the Morrison Centre Dental Group, my new work family.
My love for dental hygiene was fostered from an experience I had when I was just 14 years of age. The dental hygienist I saw was friendly and excited about oral health; she talked to me about what good oral health means instead of just showing me how to care for my mouth. I realized I had been brushing and flossing for as long as I could remember without really knowing the why of it all. This appointment helped pushed me to realize my love of the health field and the difference one person can make; I really wanted to help people the way she helped me.
Growing up in Fort McMurray I was and still am a big part of baseball. From fast pitch on the Fort McMurray rep team to now coaching a slo-pitch team, I enjoy all things baseball! I love golfing, anything to do with the outdoors, and am always willing to help out with the family business.
My priority as a dental hygienist is very simple, to pass on the knowledge which was passed on to me, to explain oral health instead of just what to do. If I can help my patients understand what oral health is and the impact it has on overall health, then I know I have done my job.
I was born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I received my Diploma of Dental Hygiene from Dalhousie University and now have over 25 years of experience in dentistry. I relocated to Fort McMurray in 2012 with my husband and 2 teenage daughters.
I lead a very active lifestyle and volleyball has been my passion since I was a teenager. I have played at various levels and am currently very active as a coach in our community.
I love working in the dental profession and my number one priority is to make sure my patients are educated about what is going with their own oral health. I find it important to listen to what my patients want, and deliver on their expectations. I also pride myself in being gentle.
The longer I live and work here, the more appreciative I am of this great community!
